4 Places in Delhi for Shopaholics

Delhi, capital of India has a lot of things to offer. It has both overwhelming history and fine modern culture. It is known for its heritage and different way of life and traditions. This richness is reflected in the food of Delhi, as the city offers different types of people a variety of cuisines and so on. Delhi is the place you swear by, no matter whether you are an avid shopper or you are a foodie like me, you would definitely fall in love with this place and for those who love street food, Delhi is heaven for them.

Are you planning a trip to Delhi? If you are, do pay a visit to the historical monuments, forts and mosques. For all the shopaholics out there, you have to visit its several markets to enjoy shopping in Delhi at its best.

Delhi is the hub of places to shop. From the lavish buildings of shopping malls to the wide spread street shopping sites, the city of Delhi has it all. Here’s a list of markets where you can buy fashionable, stylish and trendy clothes without making a hole in your pocket. Also, learn the skills of bargaining from Delhiites while you’re shopping.

•Sarojini Nagar- It is named after Sarojini Naidu. This place is one of the popular shopping areas in Delhi to buy clothes. Sarojini Nagar is slightly different than others as if you are looking for branded clothes at a cheap price, then this is place you should be. If you are in hurry, I would suggest not going there as there are lots of options to confuse you. You better avoid Sunday afternoons as it is the rush hour, with the locals coming out to shop.

•Lajpat Nagar- It is famously known for hand-made embroidery of Lucknow chickan. This place demands to be visited once when you are in Delhi. You can get various kinds of accessories, clothes, footwear and saris here. If you have already got some bargaining skills, you might even save a few bucks while shopping from Lajpat. You will also discover some mehendiwalas around the market. They apply mehendi at a very nominal price. One important thing to keep in mind is that the shopping area is closed on Mondays, so plan accordingly.

•Chandni Chowk- This place is one of the oldest and most popular markets in Delhi. It holds an astonishing amount of history. The place is very crowded and encompasses every colour of Delhi. Katra Neel Market is one of its famous markets here, which offers various kind of fabrics like silks, satin, cotton, muslin and crepe. Khari Baoli is a must visit for spice lovers. One can buy electrical goods from Bhagirath market which is Asia’s largest market for electrical goods and this also offers medical equipment and allopathic medicines. If you are fanatical with pearl jewellery, you must visit Moti Bazar; which offers exquisite collection of pearl jewellery.

•Janpath Market- The shops are starting from outer circle of Connaught place to Windsor Place. It’s attracting tourists with its colourful shawls, attractive t-shirts, dazzling earrings and a lot of junk jewellery. If you are an ethnic lover, this place will surely satiate your desire for junk jewellery. In winter, you can get some really good woolen clothes within your budget. Janpath market is closed on Sundays.

If you want to visit a mall in Delhi, you can go to Select Citywalk, one of biggest malls in Delhi and if you are with your family, this mall has a huge kids’ play zone. It is known to have quite an well- liked kids play zone in New Delhi.

The Best Anniversary Gift For My Brother!

It was my elder brother’s 10th marriage anniversary. We’ve always surprised each other on occasions like birthdays, and anniversaries. Since this is their 10th I decided to go a bit out of ordinary. I am settled in Delhi for about five years now. My brother too, once lived here while he was pursuing his graduation and this is where he met his wife. I have heard him recollect so many events about their love story which blossomed in this city. Sadly, he barely comes to Delhi now as he is settled with his wife and kid in our home town, Bangalore.

I invited my brother and sister-in law to Delhi and after a lot of coaxing and convincing; they took out time out their busy schedule and they agreed to pay a visit. Their arrival was on the night before their anniversary. My husband and I went to receive them at the airport and after the initial greetings; we led them to a car which was not ours. We kept their son with us though, who happily came with his beloved aunt! I booked for a suite in a luxury hotel for them and arranged for a dinner in one of the best restaurants in Delhi the following night.

The hotel I booked for them was in close proximity to the area where their college is. No wonder they were elated to walk down the memory lane after so many years. I sent them to a movie in one of the cinemas in Saket where they used to go while they were dating. They were short of words out of joy and I was glad when they said this was their best anniversary gift ever! The last day of their stay we all had a grand dinner together and their happiness was evident.

Sure, all these arrangements were a bit heavy on pocket, but I realized that cherished memories are the best part of someone’s life and one should never lose an opportunity to celebrate it, re-visit it.

Making Junk Food healthy

Your absolute love for junk food aptly explains that additional layer of flab, not to forget the high cholesterol and sugar levels. You thoroughly understand that junk food is nothing but a silent killer, yet you can't just get over them. However, with some sensible tips and techniques, junk food can be made, well, less junk in nature.

Here is what restaurants in Delhi and Cafes in Delhi should imbibe in their culinary regimens to avoid making food entirely junk.

Indo Space - Entertainment in Saket

Using less butter : Yes, those extra layers of cheese and mayonnaise taste heavenly, only that the health effects of consuming them are not. Restaurants should go in for lesser cheese and sauces in their stuff to make it healthier and all the more appetizing for people.

Using wholegrain bread: Instead of using bread made of flour, cafes and restaurants should resort to healthier practises of using brown bread or wholegrain bread in sandwiches. They are a good option for easy digestion and help keep the metabolism going.

Grilling instead of frying: Burgers and non veg dishes are better, and lesser loaded with calories when grilled. They can always slash off the fat from the meat before grilling to make it even healthier. Going for baked meats and boiled chicken also helps.

Cutting thicker chips for fries: We all love french fries, don’t we? And cutting out on them is an impossibility. But what if we cut thicker slices so that they absorb less oil and stay polite to our health? That would be great now, wouldn't it?

Start using live oil or flaxseed oil: Junk food is cooked in oil, and will always be cooked in oil. But restaurants can definitely make better choices for oil. Using olive or flaxseed oil can be a way better, and a healthier option.

On The Highway to Enlightenment

I am not really a movie-buff; a cinematic experience is like once in a blue moon affair for me. Yet, when I put a foot into the theater, I can’t imagine settling for anything less than an absolutely thrilling encounter.

That I am always riding high on filmy expectations is probably one of the reasons why they are, more often than not, met with a disappointment. The urge to see a movie clenches me like hell and heaven woven together, and going by the recent experience at PVR Saket, it was the latter that powerfully conquered the former.

Dancing to the tunes of ‘Patakha Guddi’ this time, I gladly hopped onto the ‘Highway’. I wasn’t really hoping to catch it, the truck that would take me to the bitter-sweet journey, but all thanks to PVR and PVR cinema timings, by 5.30, I was all good to go.

Highway is beautiful, though in a peculiar sense. The edifice is strong enough to arouse even in the most stone-hearted the emotions of, well, bafflement. It leaves one grappling with one’s own sentiments and inklings, and to figure out whether you loved it or just plain hated it will tip you over the edge. But you can choose either. Hate it or love it, it would leave you moved.
The movie doesn’t reek of drama. There is no permeating background score whose edifice could move you. Yet you will feel choked by the narrative of it, which is blatant, in an innocuous manner though.

Highway will leave you gratified. It will urge you to seek answers to questions which are non-existing, or those that have never been raised up before.  It will further propel your alter ego to claw itself from the deepest, dirty slump- slump of the insane, and that of the unacceptable.
Riddled with beauty and darkness alike, Highway portrays an enlightening picture. Or maybe it is a little devastating, too. It paints a problematic picture, yet for every turn you will take on the truck, you will be left grasping for breath.

That’s it. Highway!

Hope she likes the gift too!!

Choosing a gift is something that I have had avoided. The reason being, the moment I think of buying anything, I get overtly conscious as if someone has asked me to climb the Everest, without giving me instructions. I know might sound weird to many, but this is something that has consistently been with me.  I do not know, what makes me so very conscious of the fact that I will have to buy a gift and what if the person do not likes it? This time, its birthday of my better half and I could not compromise with her in any way. The reason being, she is sweet enough and understands that her husband is not really good shopper. Every time, I end up either being with her while gifting her something, or give my card, saying she can shop as much as can. But deep down my heart, I realize, nothing can every replace the significance of giving something all by own. So having least said, this time, I had made a firm decision that I would be buying something on my own. Trust me …CityWalk is a life saver.

By the time I was thinking of organizing birthday parties in Saket farmhouse, one of my buddies told me about Select CityWalk. He told me that I could search for booking arrangements.  Though this super spacious mall, homes the most sophisticated and best brands in Delhi, however I was not really sure where to walk-in. By the time, I was busy doing window shopping, a white dress grabbed my attention at Zara’s showroom. Though simple, yet had a glimpse of specialty in it. Without wasting much time, I rushed to the showroom, by here comes the twist. The floor assistant said that this is a dummy dress, designed by a designer. But I could get it surely, post placing an order.  Alas! I did not have time, was disappointed, but soon when the floor manager yelled back saying, ‘sir…you can take it’. That was it. He had spoken to his manger and consequentially, I managed to bag off the deal, thorough him. Yipee! I did it! I hope she likes my gift too… :-)

Look Good In Your Own Way

Instead of carrying forward to conventional looks, add-in a pinch of creativity to flaunt your way out. Cast a sunny semblance with some bright rainwear accessories and look as gorgeous as you perhaps feel.  Unlike earlier when there were hardly a few options, these days best brands in Delhi have a huge assortment of dresses to choose from. It’s not that difficult to get that perfect look, the only trick that has to be kept in mind is what colours and shades are you have chosen. It can only be accentuated with just the flawless shades and prints. Needless to make a mention of, the moment it comes to monsoons, bright colours strikes the mind.

So whenever you check out Places to shop in Delhi, make sure that you pep up your look with not being a matching queen, opt for juxtaposition of shades to team up things differently, yet smartly. It’s true enough that at times teaming up shades with one other might turn out tricky, but yes, it is certainly not impossible.  Markets are flooded with a range of light and sober fabrics, patterns, shades and designs of monsoon attires. Choose wisely, indeed prior to shopping do a thorough research on what all would be good and then only go for it!

Last but not the least, instead of buying whatever others go for, prefer sticking to your own style statement as it would help you a lot and by the time you won’t feel comfortable in whatever you wear, you just can’t look good!

A therapeutic Massage and Eating out are relaxing

We all need the means to relax and with many options to choose from, a massage therapy is a relaxing thought and option. Experts claim that a massage offers more than just physical benefits. It gives way for us to rejuvenate mentally and emotionally and with a series of sessions, the experience is not only refreshing but you feel lightweight and tension free.
Select Citywalk :- best restaurants in Delhi
Massages are known for proven health benefits that improve as your progress with every complete session. As a working professional in Delhi, I am flooded with daily work and deadlines to meet, which is why I turn to a salon in Delhi, every fortnight, to experience varied forms of massage therapies. There are salons that have included this as a part of the wellness package with the increase in demand and a large footfall turning to massage spas as treatment for a balanced lifestyle. With hundreds of therapeutic massages available, you can imagine the count of delighted and healthy people.
Our body is subjected to daily struggles and the work grind adds on. This causes the body to produce negative hormones caused primarily by stress. When I’d get stuck in traffic or am on the run to attend an important client, stress builds up, but within the body, the experience is worst still. Cortisol (stress hormones) are released that affect sleep, cause headaches and even mess with the digestive system. I experienced that all. This is when a massage therapy at a salon in Delhi saved me. It decreased the cortisol levels in the body and helped internal organs relax which I evidently felt after a few sessions. The after-effect of a massage would linger long after it was over. It also triggers a host of responses that sends signals of lasting relaxation and improved temperament, mental and physical outlook.
Eating at the best restaurants in Delhi can elevate our mood. This is true because eating well and healthy foods within a relaxing environment triggers happy hormones production.  When you eat a well-balanced meal, we feel light, our energy levels and strength increases, we look healthier, our immune system improves and we can think clearly. You are able to handle stress better and chances of diseases decrease as well.
Eating out is fun and a relaxing massage is too. Enjoying a stress-busting massage is as good as enjoying a freshly prepared dish. These are a few ways to recuperate alone or with family and friends and hence, use these means when available.
